Advancing discoveries in health care through translational science

The ICTS is funded by the National Institutes of Health under the Clinical and Translational Sciences Award (CTSA) program. Currently, there are a total of 60 CTSA programs funded throughout the United States.

The UC Irvine ICTS functions as a local centerpiece for the national program and is dedicated to accelerating scientific discovery and medical breakthroughs to the bedside. The ICTS is mandated to provide services and support to clinical and translational science in nine key areas:

  • Pilot and collaborative translational and clinical studies
  • Translational technologies and resources
  • Biomedical informatics
  • Research design, epidemiology, biostatistics and clinical research ethics
  • Regulatory knowledge and support
  • Participant and clinical interaction resources
  • Community engagement and research
  • Development of novel clinical and translational methodologies
  • Research education, training and career development

Each area of support/services is led by established investigators who are recognized authorities in their respective area of research/clinical practice.

Collectively, our goal is simple: To accelerate discoveries from the lab and to translate them into life-altering medical care.
