Functional Genomics Core


The mission of the Functional Genomics Core (FGC) is to facilitate the use of cutting-edge technologies in the area of functional genomics in support of clinical translational research and to stimulate new research ideas.

Specific aims: to provide guidance and support for researchers and trainees to conduct research in the area of functional genomics from the initial steps of experimental design to the final steps of result interpretation and publication.

Services We Provide

We support clinical research trainees and investigators by providing information education and lab services.

Specific consultation and education activities include:

  • Study design
  • Advising/training regarding proper use of different experimental platforms by the investigator (PCR, RT-PCR, NanoDrop, Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer)
  • Introducing tools to analyze genomics data
  • Linking investigators to resources available inside and outside of the ICTS to conduct a study
  • Co-sponsor seminars (combined with the Bioassay and Gen2 cores) that will provide ICTS users with novel technologies applicable to translational research
  • Fostering potential collaboration between clinical researchers and basic science researchers

Specific lab and collaboration services include:

  • RNA/DNA isolation and quality control
  • Validation of gene and microRNA expression data using real-time quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) technology
  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • MicroRNAs microarrays (new service)
  • TaqMan® SNP Genotyping Assays (new service)
