Pathways to Cures: A Celebration of Clinical Translational Science with Dr. Diana W. Bianchi

Join us for our annual Pathways to Cures Event with Diana W. Bianchi, MD, Director of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) at the National Institutes of Health as our speaker. NICHD was founded in 1962 to investigate human development throughout the entire life process, with a focus on understanding disabilities and important events that occur during pregnancy. Dr. Bianchi oversees the research on pediatric health and development, maternal health, reproductive health, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and rehabilitation medicine, among other areas.

In his research, Dr. Raj uses computational and experimental approaches to understand the genetic factors driving neurodegenerative diseases with the ultimate goal of finding a cure. In this talk, Dr. Raj will talk about functional genomics and bioinformatics approaches his lab is taking to understand neurodegenerative diseases. This webinar will provide an opportunity for investigators to learn about NCI’s participation in the set of NIH announcements, “Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health (R01/R21 - Clinical Trial Optional, R03 – Clinical Trial Not Allowed).” These announcements focus on a broad range of topics across multiple NIH Institutes and Centers to build the knowledge base on the dissemination of evidence and the implementation of a range of evidence-based interventions (including practices, programs, tools, treatments, guidelines, and policies).

Topic: γ-Secretase Function and Dysfunction in Familial Alzheimer’s Disease
Speaker: Michael Wolfe, PhD
Dr. Wolfe is Mathias P. Mertes Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at University of Kansas. Dr. Wolfe established his lab at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where his work focused on understanding the molecular basis of Alzheimer’s and related disorders and identifying effective approaches for pharmacological intervention. The Wolfe lab studies intramembrane-cleaving proteases (I-CLiPs) that play critical roles both in normal biology and in human disease. Note: this event will be held virtually via Zoom and In-Person in Natural Sciences 1114.
