ICTS renewal celebrated at Ignite Gala

Orange County, CA – September 14, 2024 – University Lab Partners (ULP) and The Beall Family Foundation hosted the Ignite Gala, an elegant event dedicated to community support for medtech, biotech, research, and healthcare workforce development. This annual gathering unites individuals and organizations committed to inspiring and empowering the fields of science, engineering, and medicine, showcasing the impact of collaboration within Orange County. This year’s gala featured the prestigious Excellence Award presented to Dr. Sanger, recognizing his significant contributions to pediatric research, medicine, and education. The evening also celebrated the accomplishments of over 2,000 CHOC ULP MIRE students and honored distinguished guests, including George Tolomiczenko, PhD, MBA, MPH, and former students Alexa Hudnut, PhD, of Illumina, and Li Zhou, PhD, now with Dexcom.

Additionally, 150 attendees recognized the remarkable achievements of students from The Sanger Lab, John Gerace for his dedicated service as a UCI Foundation Trustee and welcomed Michelle Digman, PhD, the new Chair of Biomedical Engineering at UCI. A highlight of the event was the celebration with Dr. Cooper of the renewal of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) at UCI. The CTSI plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between laboratory research and patient care, facilitating the translation of scientific discoveries into effective treatments and practices. Through its collaborative framework, the CTSI enhances research capabilities, fosters interdisciplinary partnerships, and supports the development of innovative healthcare solutions.
