The Design and Monitoring of Group Sequential Clinical Trials This course provides an introduction to the methodology for the design, monitoring and analysis of group sequential trials. Methodology will be presented using case studies and examples of clinical trials with continuous, binary, and survival endpoints. The sequential methods will be illustrated using RCTdesign, an R module for the design, monitoring, and analysis of clinical trials. Emphasis will be placed on both the scientific and statistical impact of group sequential trial design. |

Lecture 1: The Physician-Scientist as a Career: Requirements and Expectations The road to anticipating, preparing and negotiating this challenging but rewarding career will be outlined and discussed in detail. The fascinating 50+ year history of the concept of integrating science and medicine will be concisely presented. Alternative approaches to the well-characterized and standard (but successful) Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) will be discussed. The opportunities for other non-MD scientists who function as “physician scientists” will also be briefly summarized. |

Stata Lunchtime Series: Survival Analysis 1/2 SA 1: Introduce concepts and jargon of survival analysis including time-to-event data, different kinds of censoring, as well as graphical, nonparametric, semi-parametric, and parametric methods for modeling survival data. SA 2: Advanced topics such as Cox regression with categorical and continuous time-varying covariates, shared-frailty models, multilevel parametric survival analysis, survival analysis in the context of structural equation models (SEM), and competing risks regression are discussed. |
