CHOC Research Education: Best Practices for Conducting High-Quality Qualitative Data with Rachel Carmen Ceasar, PhD

Dr. Rachel Ceasar is a qualitative research consultant with the Biostatistics Epidemiology and Research Design (BERD) team at The USC SC CTSI. In this role, Rachel supports faculty and junior investigators with studies and grants involving qualitative research, including focus groups, one-on-one interviews, quality-of-life work, and mixed methods. Dr. Ceasar also has experience with IRB applications, conducting interviews, and coding.

Power & Sample Size: Simulation Methods in Stata

Speaker: Chuck Huber, PhD
This talk demonstrates how to calculate power using simulation methods and how to create your own custom power calculation programs that leverage Stata’s -power- command to create custom tables and graphs. We will work examples that simulate power for a t-test, the interaction term in a linear regression model, and the interaction term in a multilevel model. Along the way you will learn how to create simulated datasets, use Stata’s -simulate- command, and how to write your own Stata commands using -program- and -syntax-.

CHOC Research Education: Study Design with Connie Rhee, MD, MSc

As a clinical investigator in the University of California Irvine, Division of Nephrology, Hypertension, and Kidney Transplantation, Dr. Rhee conducts prospective and retrospective research studies and clinical trials centered upon patients with kidney disease. She is currently the Principal Investigator of two US National Institutes of Health / National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases R01 awards; she has also been supported by multiple NIH, National Kidney Foundation, and American Thyroid Association grants through the years. Dr. Rhee has published over 230 manuscripts to date.
